Hale County 4-H Entomology ID Teams Compete at District

On Saturday May 4th, a group of young 4-Hers from Hale County competed at the District 2 4-H Entomology ID Competition held at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Center in Lubbock.  Competing in the senior division was the team of Hale Center’s Brady Baker, Cotton Center’s Rachel Walden, Jamie Shadden, and Kylee Prutzman.  In the intermediate division Plainview’s Zander Folsom competed as an individual.  In the junior division Cotton Center’s Kylee Keys, Blanton Bobo, and Ace Sanders made up the junior team.  The members of the Hale County team had been working and studying insect taxonomy, dichotomous keys, and integrated pest management and how to apply that knowledge this spring.  Their efforts paid off of all Hale Conty contestants at the contest this year.  The senior team won the district contest with the highest composite score with Brady Baker taking 2nd high point individual and Rachel Walden taking 3rd high point individual.  For the intermediates, Zander Folsom took 2nd highest point individual.  In the junior division, the Hale County team also won their division of the district contest with young Kaylee Keys taking 3rd high point individual honors.  The senior team has qualified to compete at the next level of Entomology ID contests to be held at the State 4-H Roundup in College Station, Texas in early June.  Congratulations to all these aspiring young entomologists and biologists.

Brady Baker, Sr 4-Her and 2nd place high Point individual.
